Beekeeping Classes in the Hen House

We have four classes scheduled and try to attend all, if possible, as you will learn how to start your hives and then end with how to harvest the honey. The dates are the second Saturdays: May 11th, June 8th, July 13th, and August 10th from 12:00-1:30. The class fee is $5 and it includes all four classes. Preston Zale teaches the classes and is very knowledgeable about beekeeping. Please mail a check for $5 payable to Oakland Township, mail to: Oakland Township HDC, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, MI 48306. If it is easier and you are local, you can always stop by the HDC office and drop off the payment. We are located 2nd floor of the Paint Creek Cider Mill, 4480 Orion Road.

Meet your local beekeeper Preston Zale

“Our first meeting will be an overview of bees, beehives, and how to set up a brand new hive. Subsequent meetings will touch on all aspects of beekeeping. We will cover the basics of bees and bee health, beehives and maintenance, and of course, harvesting honey. Our meetings will be held indoor of the hen house with optional trips to visit the hives in the park in walking distance.”
