The Oakland Township Historic District Commission (HDC) has been busy inviting residents of all ages to Cranberry Lake Farm Historic District, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  The sixteen acre farm, within Cranberry Lake Park, is located at 388 West Predmore in northern Oakland Township.  The HDC funded the construction of the Little Library and Mr. Dick Dwyer and Roger Kurrasch designed, built and painted as a miniature replica of the Flumerfelt Barn.  The little library is for everyone and offers the in-kind take a book - leave a book philosophy.

The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL) have generously donated great books to fill the library.   Mark and Pat Pierce were very supportive in identifying a variety of books for all ages to enjoy.  The selection includes Scouting manuals, Pinewood Derby Designs, History of the World, masonry and woodworking, and do –it yourself projects.  The Friends also have a Used Book Sale on September 23-27 at RHPL.  “We enjoy supporting programs that foster a love of reading,” said Mark Pierce, Friends Member.

Volunteers from the OTHS and Friends, Tom Asmus and Bill Kroger, will monitor the reading selections periodically to check for restocking.  HDC Vice chair David Phillips suggested a variety of Boy Scouting books in remembrance of his late father Arthur Phillips, who was an Eagle Scout, OTHS member, and OT Parks Commissioner.

The installation is planned for late September.  Please come out and help yourself to a book and enjoy the historic views of the farm.  Feel free to make yourself comfortable on the lawn or a bench, have a seat and read!
