Oakland Township Candidate Information
Any Oakland Township resident interested in obtaining or filing the affidavit of identity and nominating petitions necessary to run with a political party affiliation for a position on the Oakland Township Board of Trustees needs to obtain a candidate information packet from the Clerk's office.
Nominating petitions must contain at least 20, but no more than 50, signatures from Oakland Township residents who are qualified, registered voters. Available positions are Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and four (4) Trustee seats.
Appointments with the Clerk's office are necessary to obtain or file the affidavit of identity and nominating petitions for the seven (7) seats on the partisan Parks and Recreation Commission and also for the six (6) seats on the non-partisan Library Board of Trustees.
Parks and Recreation Commission nominating petitions must contain at least 20, but no more than 50, signatures from Oakland Township residents who are qualified, registered voters. Library nominating petitions must contain at least 40, but no more than 100, signatures from Oakland Township residents who are qualified, registered voters.
In lieu of nominating petitions, individuals seeking to run WITH a political party affiliation for a position on the Township Board of Trustees or Parks and Recreation Commission may pay a refundable $100 filing fee. This filing fee is refunded if the candidate receives nomination to the office or places second in the race. A $100 filing fee may also be paid in lieu of a nominating petition for the Library Board, however, this fee is NON-refundable.
If you choose to run WITHOUT a political party affiliation for a position on the Township Board of Trustees or Parks and Recreation Commission you need to file qualifying petitions (there is no option to pay a $100 filing fee) and an Affidavit of Identity for the November general election.
